Well decided to try something and it worked. Since the lock was stuck halfway between locked and unlocked and I couldnt get the key in I took an old key and ground off the little part that goes in the slot. It went right in and I was able to turn it. Workes like a charm now. I tried the key on my friends bike to make sure it wouldnt open his and it didnt. For now on I will carry this as an extra in case it happens again. I appreciate all the replies. I do keep all locks lubed as many suggested so I knew that wasnt the problem. It just seems to rotate to half way between locked and unlocked on its own as I am riding.

It could be because of vibration. I've heard that some H-D's vibrate.

Take your extra Key and file the notch off the outside then unlock it. Same thing happen to my buddy's saddlebag Locksmith told me this happen because when barrel locks get too much wear on them.

not if he uses an aerosol type grease.
Have you checked to see if the screw that holds the lock together is tight?
You need to have the lid open and look close..well not that close if you dont need glasses.

The same thing happened on my buddy's bike while we were in Helen, GA this year. Apparently, it is not that unusual of an occurrence.

When it happen on my buddy 's 2009 the notch on the key was worn enought to slip out leaving the lock in between stops. So when took the notch off the key he was able to reinsert the key where the lock have stop, it is still working today.
