Default Stock pipes are great

Just bought my used 2007 Road King. Had some straight through shotgun slip ons that gave me an immediate headache when riding it home. Found some brand new stock take offs for $45 and put em on. Man what a difference. At 60mph, I can't even hear the exhaust, the loudest thing is the sewing machine sound of the valve train and the wind coming around my fairing.
I guess to each his own, but I am sold on the stock pipes.
I do have a big sucker intake, is it ok to run with the stock pipes?

On long (i.e., all-day and multi-day) rides, I miss the stockers.

Yes, you're fine running the Big Sucker with stock mufflers, and will still see some benefit. However, if your bike has a tuner set up for the Big Sucker/aftermarket mufflers combo, you may be a tad rich now. Better than lean.

I prefer stock or very close to stock pipes.

my monster rounds are good to go, fairly respectable and not obnoxious or an ear issue on full day rides.

Default Agreed

My last bike had a set of Vance and Hines Short staggered. Had enough of them. Stock is fine with me.

All these complaints about having pipes that are too loud can be cured with some inexpensive ear plugs!

I also was tired of the loud mufflers on my bike, so I put the stock mufflers back on. I immediately noticed a loss of power, and really, they were too quiet. Put on a set of Monster ovals, power was back with just the right amount of sound.

A to the earplug comment, I wear them all the time, not for the exhaust noise, but for the wind noise.

Running with two ears plugged is illegal in many states.

Quiet pipes make for much more comfortable cruising if piling on the miles.

Most like loud pipes, but often cross the line where they begin to get annoying to the rider and those around him. Then it only makes sense to tone them down a bit to a reasonable level.

Different strokes for different folks.
