Out of necessity. Was on a long PGR mission today and on the way home I found my front peg had fallen off just as I was entering an interstate on ramp. Tried to find it to no avail so I took the rear peg off, put it on front and decided to take the rear lever off. My buddy said "you can do that when you get home" but I am now glad I did it. After riding the 70 plus miles I really appreciated having the extra foot room. So First thing I am gonna do is take the peg back off and re-install with loctite, then buy the chrome cap to cover the splined shaft. After years of being a naysayer I am now a convert. Have read many on here on both sides of the fence and I must admit one reason I was adamant about not removing the rear was because of a tranny issue I was having. Just had that fixed so now I am with the big foot group. It is a shame they do not sell a shorter shift spline to operate a single front shift lever. Or does someone ???
I run PM levers which offer plenty of room for front and back, along with board relocators. No way I'd ever give up the rear lever. I used it to find neutral and for up shifting.
I always take mine off too. Get a chrome spacer (Kuryakn makes one, others too) and it will space your shifter out making it even better. I got 13's too. Need the room.
You can get a spacer that moves the toe shifter out to where the heel shifter was. I bought one from Kuryakn, cost about $25. Before I bought the space I used a cut piece of garden hose. Worked nicely but the chrome spacer looks better than the green hose. I also like haveing the shifter further out as I now have extended footboards too.
I used my heel shifter rubber as a spacer and run my toe shifter all the way outboard on the shaft. Makes it easy to get to. Also, the rubber keeps it from rattling like a metal spacer would.
I did mine also, found chrome spacers in the local True Value Hdwe store's marine section. Only cost 5.00 each I believe. Never have liked heel shifters ,grew up shifting with one shifter lever and have no problem finding neutral or missing gears.
