I traded for my 06 RKC with Stage 1 on Oct 16, 2012, paid $12,350. it is loaded to the gills with extras as you can see in my pic. I just put it in the shop to have the cam tenshoners checked and the previous owner had even just recently replaced them. It had 34,500 miles on it, has a little over 37,000 now. A great bike !

I would say "Go for it" !

OP: Just so you know - the 5 speed delivers the same fuel mileage as the 6 speed. It's just one more gear.

Id go for it . I just made the jump myself from sporty to a 2006 rkc. To me it was night and day difference . I did 80mph on the freeway for 2 hours and still got 42mpg . The 09 and up frame wont matter to you coming from a sporty and you will save money

My RKC has a 6 speeds. Problem is it has engine work done and unless I want to run around 80MPH I never use the sixth gear. I don't think I'd let a extra gear stop you. I doubt you'll ever miss it. Maybe running thru some place where the limit is 75MPH I'll hit 82 or so. I have both type frames and although the new frame handles better, it rides rougher. I'm not a real aggressive rider but the new frame does handles better.

..of all the changes in the last 10 years to the touring bikes...I say the 6th gear is the LEAST impressive....definitely not a deal breaker.....love my 5...don't want to be shifting more gears...gets old...hell,we ran 4 speeds for eternity, and they worked fine...

I have an '06 FLHRI RK with o2's, and a 5 speed. Only wish I could get the time and money to go up to stage IV.

Go for it. You won't even miss 6th gear unless shifting at 85 and your cruising over 100.

Six speed is way over rated with all that power over stock.
