Default 06 Road King with Stage IV

Looking for y'alls opinion. I've been looking to buy a FLHR and was told to go '09 or newer cuz of the frame but I've been thinking since I've only ridden my Sporty would I even notice a difference? Here's why I'm asking, I found an '06 with stage IV, stretched bags and the bike looks and sound incredible. The asking price is $12k. What y'all think spend the extra for a stock '09 - '12 or not? The big thing (if it even is) is it's 5 speed but it is fuel injected. Thanks for you time and comments. Oh yeah it's got 36k miles on it.

You want to get into a tourer then you really should hold out for the 6th gear. In other words stage IV 06 tourer with only 5 gears would not make me want to pull the trigger. If you want a stage IV build then find one on a lighter bike and you will sure have more fun.

From my experience owning both, if you spent considerable saddle time on an older frame bike and an 09 bike, yes you would notice a difference. If your jumping up from a sporty, any touring bike is going to feel like a great improvement. That RK is considerably cheaper than any 09 youre going to find, and it already has lots of $$$ worth of mods that it sounds like you like. If it hasnt been dogged for 6 years and is in good shape id say go for it. You can always add a tru-trak or similar stabilizer that will improve stability.

IMO the 5 speed is not a deal breaker whatsoever. It only saves you 300 rpm at 85 mph. Ill run 85mph 500+miles a day on my EG with no problems. I barely use 6th on my RG unless im doing 90+

That would be my take on it. The big question is how the bike was ridden since it was taken to a stage IV.

I've had 5 and 6 speeds. The 5 speed wouldn't be a deal breaker for me either.

Sounds like a good deal to me. The 5 speed wouldn't bother me either. You could even install a 6 speed tranny if you wanted and still be cheaper than buying a similar 09.

And it can't be any worse than the 07-later stock 6 speeds. They have problems with the IPB going out.

Thanks everyone. I'm going to give it good look over and the dealer paperwork. They told me they did all the work there.

My 06 EG cruises 75-80 mph smooth as glass. After adding the 21/18 combo the rpm's dropped just a little at cruising speeds, Because the rear tire is a bit taller then the oem tire is. I would say about 200 rpm give or take. So, the 5-speed works just fine.

I love my 06 road king. No complaints at all.
