Ok i'll give it a good look over, i understand how the locking tab works just seems it leans back more than it should, sometimes.

You DON'T want to do that.
The bike sits fine with the initial design, stand out to the side, not forward.
Other bikes have stands that go forward to cross the spring center.
Other bikes will stab the ground and flip when the stand is forgotten.
Harley stand will merely sweep to the rear if you forget. There is no way for it to "stab" the ground, not pointing forward, like others, and being out of the slot once you take off.
Don't try to tell me you NEVER forgot the kickstand.

exactly, an old school friend of mine lost his life when his side stand came down in a curve and stabbed the pavement then flipped his bike. For this reason I have no complaints about the Harley Davidson touring side stand design and function.

My old 1990 ultra had 143K on her when I sold it. I hated to let it go but it was time. I put a lot of hard miles on it and started to worry that it was going to leave me walking one day. It seemed like every week I had to do something to keep the old girl going. I can only hope that this 08 will be as good.

The lock tab is designed with a top and bottom as well as a front and back.

From the manual:

Holding leg at normal forward (down) Position, install stop over threaded end with the stamped side down. Verify that the longer side of the stop faces the rear of the motorcycle. Install flat washer, lock-washer and hex screw. Tighten hex screw to 15-20 ft-lbs.
