I have a few of the more tasteful button down shirts -- short & long sleeve -- and enjoy wearing them for a variety of reasons: they're actually well-made, they fit me quite nicely, they really don't cost much more than the better casual shirts I typically buy on sale or not and they invite all kinds of interesting exchanges from folks I might never have met.
Case in point: We were at a family gathering with all of the kids and grandkids just before Christmas at the home of our daughter-in-law's parents. They had made arrangements for "Santa Claus" to drop by to visit with the little ones. I was wearing a nicer H-D long-sleeve casual shirt and as we stood in for photos with the grandkids he quietly asked my wife Debbie, "So, does he ride or just have a shirt?". She replied, "We both ride... all the time!". He and I spent at least 15 minutes having a great conversation talking about riding, bikes, the local dealers and places we'd travelled on our bikes after he'd finished his Santa-like duties. I learned quite a few things about him and how he'd come to be "Santa" (real beard and the appropriate body BTW) and it was just a great chance meeting. Had I not had anything with a H-D logo on it there's a pretty good chance we'd have just posed for a photo and that would have been that.
The same thing has happened in a variety of different places and circumstances, in much the same way that someone will simply walk up to you at your parked bike and exchange a greeting or strike up a conversation about bikes.
Hey, I'm just a guy who loves motorcycles and that's all there is to it. BTW, yes... I also have some BMW and Honda logo apparel in my closet that I wore before I stepped over to the dark side with our first Harley. Interestingly enough, it was quite rare that anyone would strike up a conversation about motorcycles: cars & auto racing... you bet. Even moto-cross as those guys alway recognized the red wing Honda logo. But street bike guys... not unless I was at a motorcycle event.
Just some food for thought.
Do as you please and wear what you like. I'll do the same.
I agree that some of the clothing is priced a little high but the quality is there. I am a jeans and t-shirt kinda guy and like to wear the bar and shield. It is a conversation starter and can find people with your common interest in a crowd.
I have been wearing the jeans and they run true to size. I wear a 34 length and find it tough to find that lenght off the shelf so I order them from my dealer.
Would that be BikeTown? Picked up a shirt from them on a trip up there this year. They have some of the best logos I've seen on their shirts.
I wear Harley gear all the time. Definitely shop the clearance racks at the dealer and ebay for good deals. Harley's stuff is expensive but good quality so worth it to me. Glad that your wife is like mine and buys me gear. Wear it with pride and ride safe!
Aight fellas went down to Brian's HD, they have a lot of clothes for sale. Since
getting my SG I've been collecting hd t-shirts mostly off the sale rack..today the wife splurged and got me a hd button down shop type shirts..are a lot of u guys sporting the hd shirt, jeans and what not... Don't wanna look like I went out and got a hd starter kit lol!!!!! Thanks for letting me share and Merry Christmas to all!!!!
I have 2 button down HD shirts in the closet. I usually wear them with jeans to functions that are collar worthy. Otherwise I am always rocking the t-shirts!
