I agree with ZARAN. It's hard to beat Progressive for the price/improvement ratio.

By the time you apply the forum discounts you'll be about 250 over the 500 you want to spend. If you're going to lay out that kind of coin for shocks, at least call an expert and let him explain the importance of high quality shocks.

Someone told me a long time ago "The best you know, is the best you've ridden". If you haven't tried one of the higher end shocks, you are short changing yourself. You get what you pay for.

IMO bottom line is the Progressive are much better than the stock shocks, Terry Cable and Works a little better if set up correctly and the Ohlins and JRI that Howard now sells probably the top of the line for our bikes. But there is a big difference in pricing between them so its also important to take that into account as well as your riding style and ability... will you based on your abilities and type of riding really notice the difference? A lot of riders buy the top of the line stuff nd never really have the need for it because they dont push into that area. Im a pretty agressive rider and a lot of my riding is canyons, i replace floorboard pans yearly on my bikes and for me the Progressive 940 were enough of an improvement for the $ that they made sense. If I had a bigger budget I probably would go JRI or Ohlin but for about $ 500 the Progressives are the best bang for the $ IMO.
I tried to call Howard last week and the phone # on his website would not go Through.

Does anyone know the pricing on the Ohlin or JRI shocks? I installed the progressive mono tubes with the 1 inch lower on the front and I am not liking the stock rear shocks one of my options that I've been looking at is the progressive 944 rear shocks. You can get them on Ebay for $536.

Thanks for the reply's, i'm not an aggresive rider but me and my wife want something that is not so stiff and will rattle our teeth out when riding around. Been playing with the factory shocks for 4 months and there is no sweet spot either of us like. Don't really have the budget for Ohlin's or JRI, and have herd good things about Terry Cable and Progressive for a mid priced shock.

Howard's contact information

Howard G. Messner
New Phone #: 1-954-848-1525

He says he is available at most "decent" times and is in the Eastern time zone

As was said earlier, Howard discounts those shocks BIG time for forum members. Give him a call and see what he can do for you, all you have to lose is a few minutes of your time and more than likely you will learn something.

Howard is by far the most knowledgeable guy around when it comes to HD suspension. The greatest part about Howard is that he will share his knowledge and experience if you are willing to listen. It almost strikes me that weather or not you buy the shocks he recommends is secondary, he gives you the info so that you can make the best decision for yourself...

I got an education from Motorcycle Metal website. Really did not know I could upgrade my RK suspenders so much.
I had Ohlins on my Ducati; they were very good.

Shocks are like women get the best you can afford for the best ride. Howard is great....knows the motorcycle suspension inside and out. He helped me transform a road king with Ohlins and race tech valves, springs and changes to the valve bodies in the fork legs. This bike handles and is smooth as silk even on bad roads......It's nice to work with a true subject matter expert.....

I would go with 13"s to try to get some more cornering clearance and possibly more susension travel.
