Default 2013 Ultra

Just bought a new 2013 Ultra with 11 miles. While riding it around my neighborhood heard a loud clanking noise for about 5 seconds in the lower part of the motor. Sounded liek a rod knocking but it quit and I took it to the dealer and they cant find anything. They think it was the auto tensioner.....Is this possible,,,my bike only has 13 miles on it.....Any help would be appreciated.

welcome to the forums.

suggest you do not do anything to the bike which would violate the warranty.

and ride the heck out of it.

anything goes wrong the first 2 years is their problem.

if they "think it was the auto tensioner" then maybe they should take the time to go over all the items on the set up list ( remember how they charged you for set up?).

as a "customer satisfaction" solution- maybe they didn't have their best tech on your machine to prep it for you.

keep all your paperwork everytime you have a concern with the bike.

make sure that all scheduled services are done, document, document, document.

If you find that you loose faith with the selling dealer, go to another dealer with your complaints/concerns

Mike

Never heard of this. After a proper break in ride it like you stole it. If it breaks its HDs problem.

Gotta love these "it's HDs problem" responses.

If you just bought a new bike and had an issue, perceived or real, how is it HDs problem? Yes in the legal sense it is and that's what the warranty should cover. But in the real world it's your bike. If they (HD) find a problem and fix it, well then, no harm - no foul. On the other hand, if they tell you they can't find a problem, like it or not, now it's your problem. Sure you'll have legal recourse if there is a true defect but you may end up with a lot of blood, sweat and tears invested before resolution.

So how can anyone say it's HDs problem?

It may well be jburgess' "inconvenience" but it is absolutely HD's problem. The warranty is the main reason many of us are willing to take the beating on the front-end by buying new. The world is full of barely ridden garage-queens if one wishes to roll the dice or wrench our own.

They should have pulled the cover to inspect.

I had a complaint about noise coming from the primary on mine at the 1K service. The dealer pulled the cover instead of guessing.

Break it in and change all your oils . I use synthetic in motor ,redline in trans and like everyone else said you are under warranty , just ride it. You can also get the extended for another 3 years. I know my sg 2013 made some weird sounds ,smelled like something burning for the first 500 miles.
