I like the FirstGear Kilimanjaro textile jacket, 3/4 length for good coverage, works as well as a rain suit, has vents and lots of pockets that are water resistant.

I never wear my leather coat anymore. I went with a North Face WindStopper. It blocks the wind as good as my leather coat did but its lightweight and takes very little space in my bags. If it's cold I wear a long sleeve t-shirt or long sleeve thermal underwear and never get cold. I've been caught in the rain for several hours and stayed dry.

Textile takes up less space and more practical. Ck out the closeouts on these web sites. www.jafrum.com, www.motorcyclegear,com, and www.leatherup.com. For the money I have several Tourmaster jackets, most bang for the buck.

Great choice! My brother has one and loves it.

I recently went through the same problem. I was packing WAY too much into the saddlebags.

I just picked up the Tourmaster Flex jacket. It's a mesh jacket with armor in the shoulders, elbows and back. It also has an outer shell that is wind-proof/water-proof (resistant) and a full, quilted liner. I rode about 100 mi on it when I got it last week and was very happy with it. I started out with all three layers on in about 50 degrees. Made it about 5 minutes before I was sweating and had to take the outer layer off.

Plus, it opened up a lot of room in the bike. Ride safe.

Harley Dust Storm jacket here. All the pocket, vents, liners and fasteners you could want. Ridden in 38 degree weather without a problem and I like the fit.

My only complaint with riding jackets is that I can't find one with good visibility that doesn't make you look like a safety cone.
In mild weather around town I often wind up wearing my old Tony Stewart Home Depot leather.

From a pure versatility standpoint the textile cannot be beat. I have an Olympia and Tourmaster but like the tourmaster best. It is a mesh outer good for mild temps and when it gets hot like above 90 I stop every hour or so and soak it down. It acts like an evap cooler and is way better than just a shirt. When it gets cooler zip in the thermal liner, if it gets really cold zip in the rain liner and thermal, way warmer than my premium lined leather and more comfortable too. Both liners can be compacted down to minimal bulk but the outer mesh still takes up space. I have the Tourmaster Intake ? bought it 6-7 years ago and is in my ipinion top quality, not one broken snap or zipper. I also have the pants. I love the leather though, I just like the way it feels and smells.

HD gear tends to be overpriced, and rarely come with spine protection. Leather is going to be heavy, not sure why others are suggesting it although a great product.

Try a textile jacket lots of vents and removable liner. Whatever you get, make sure you get full armor.
