Default Thoughts on riding jacket setup

Goal
To reduce weight and have a jacket setup that works well for AZ heat and CA cold for week long ride.

Currently on my rides I take a leather jacket, long sleeve shirt and sweatshirt for layers and then rain gear. One issue is weight and bulkiness of all this gear and second it is the lack of venting with the leather when things get hot.

My possible solution.
Harley make a jacket (fuel cell textile) that has venting, is thin, and is water proof. I would take this and when cold I can use my heated jacket liner or long sleeve shirt. I think this would cover me from 110 to 30's temps. I would also get venting when hot and just need to pack t shirts then. It can also take the armor from Harley if I wanted.

Thoughts?

Thanks for the help Guys & Gals

Is the jacket really heavy? And also how is the water resistance?

I ask because my current leather takes a long time to dry and is already heavy. I do prefer leather for short rides but for 5-10 day rides I am wanting to increase function...

Have you tried conditioning your current leather?

I did and it really helped. I would like to shed some of the weight. Also I was thinking the textile one would dry better and would vent well.

I have the Fox Creek textile jacket. Full liner , nice double long cuffs for the cold weather.
The jacket has front and back zipper vents for heat control.

I wear an expedition weight polypropylene long sleave shirt and a fleece sweatshirt under the jacket for cold days 30s. Both shirts are very low bulk and form fitting and pack small in the saddle bags. You really can't go wrong with man made fibers. Weight to warmth is amazing.
The textile jacket keeps the water out well enough.

I have a HD Switchback 3 in 1 which is the best jacket I've ever used:

part number: 97273-12VM
( Harley-DavidsonŽ Men's Dust Storm Switchback Functional Jacket"- there are also other designs with same function)

takes the HD armor in the shoulders and elbows- you gotta consider that at some point you may be sliding, so a tough jacket is a must.

the lower sections of the front and back solid panels zip off leaving a mesh jacket underneath- the top of the chest, back, shoulder and outer arms are still covered by the tough stuff.

various venting options

the rain liner ( if needed) is worn underneath.

I find mine comfy from 60ş to 100ş, dry and moist.

Can go colder if a wear a Patagonia underneath.

I find it really helps NOT to wear black in the Arizona sun from march to october, for sure

for my legs, I have lowers on my bike, and chaps help for all day either hot or cold.

Mine is a Large, I am actually shopping for an XL as i have put on some weight post-back surgery...getting back in shape, but some of my riding stuff is tight.

Right now for this weather i am wearing a HD Competition III jacket- black, leather, zip out liner, vents

Thanks for the input. It is great for me to hear about how others prep for the ride. I think I will pick up the jacket tonight....

I've gotten my jacket wet number of times, and it's fine. Foxcreek has a leather treatment that helps with the rain. I like their leather because it 2nd to none and the customer service is great, you talk to a person that can answer all questions & the people who work there are riders

I've had my firstgear scout jacket for 20+ years and it is still always my go to. Quality leather with vents in front, back and sleeves. I never use the liner as I have heated liner & gloves. I have used it in 110+ Vegas heat and Beartooth snow and it always serves me well.
