Default Hanging 5!

As I get more and more used to my Road King. I find I really don't like the feeling when the floorboards hit the road in corners...
Today, I adopted a net technique. I twist my inside leg a bit so my toes are pointed out and hanging off the edge of the floorboard, this angles my knee out as well, but I find you can get a good feel for where the road is with your toes and easily tell how far you are from scraping.
Anybody else doing this? Do they make plastic skid plates for the bottom of your boards?
What the heck do you guys do, please don't tell me you just drag your floorboards around corners!

Be careful using your toes to feel the road. One little asphalt bump and you will be seeing stars.

Those floorboards will fold up and out of the way a bit if needed.

Now that's just silly! He wants to feel the G's!

Seriously, my advice.....slow down or buy a V-Rod. I've never seen any kind of skid covers for the bottom of the floorboards and I'm an insurance adjuster so if they were out there I likely would have seen them. I don't think HD expected folks would be out there knee-puckin' on a Road King!!!

One alternative is to switch floorboard styles. The swept wing floorboard style on the Road Glide Customs and Street Glides (and previously the Road King Customs) are supposed to be narrower which allow for more clearance. I'm sure there are plenty of aftermarket ones you can switch to which are probably even narrower.

Hope that helps a little.

i touch toes from time to time, but you will get used to the lean angle.

dont listen to the haters, drag boards/bags/knees, whatever you want. contrary to many on the internet, they're built to ride, not putt putt around.

You pretty much have two choices, deal with the dragging or slow down. The floorboards on the new bikes dont bother me because they fold and have some play, you can drag em all day. Now on the 1990 the mounts coming directly off the frame drag first before the floorboards... those im a little less comfortable sliding around on...

One of the first quotes I read on these touring forums:

"scraping floorboards is a warning not a problem"
