Yup, real bad idea IMO. There's a video on Youtube of that very event, guy low sides on a hopped up looking SG, leg sucked under the bag.
I stay well within the limits of the bike, and I scrape pretty regularly, even at low speeds. These big bikes are far from a sportbike, but they're fun to ride a little aggressively. If you think the touring bikes are bad, ride a Heritage sometime, scrape city!

I drag my toes on occasion and it sure does wake me up! I don't recommend the toe method but say grind away on the boards. As far as "slow down", I think this is more a question regarding angle than speed.

I love finding spots where I can grind mine a bit. Let's me know that there is a lean limit coming up shortly if I lean too much farther. Just makes it more fun to whip it around and hear that every now and then vs simply putting around in a straight line. As others have previously said, I would definitely not recommend using your toes as feelers. If something on the road catches your toes hanging off the side of those boards, that could make for a very bad day.

Yeah, I didn't even think about that. Wouldn't want to lose a leg. I just find that scraping noise unsettling.

Somebody mentioned a Heritage Softail.. you are right. My Dad used to have one of those, that sucker is low and wide.

A. You just made me laugh out loud and I think I scarred my dog
B. You made my sig.

on the dragging part I have The old cop bike which sits an inch higher so I can dig pretty good before I drag. The only time I really drag is when I'm hitting back roads with a buddy that has a dual sport.

Keep your toes off the road! On my old M109 I was scraping my pegs on the on ramp for the expressway, I leaned so hard that my shoe caught the floor and yanked my leg that my knee flexed in the opposite direction. That was 4 months ago and i **** you not it still hurts from time to time.
BETTER THE FLOORBOARDS THAN YOURSELF
