Long story - short as possible. 2007 SG, K&N, Rinehart TD, Andrews 48h, Dynoed -- 84hp. 98tq. Runs great pulls like a train BUT just cruising at 2600 rpm following a car and roll it on to pass and it pings. Took it back to the man who dynoed it and he took out 11/2 degrees of timeing and it still pings. Now the 2600 rpm is the start of the power band where this cam really starts coming on. What should I do? Take it back and try to do a new dyno test or what?
or fuel type ( make sure you are using suggested octane rating- use another brand/gas station if unsure) or air/ fuel mixture
or temperature in the combustion chamber
or really unlikely, you have sharp pieces in the combustion chamber which heat up and glow like plugs- this would only happen after damage from persistent pinging or attempts at "porting the heads".
the best you can do for the tuner is keep track of when it pings...hot/cold solo, 2 up , level ground, up a hill and the rpms and gear.
the more info you can give him of your real-world riding, the better he can alter the tune to your needs
with a bunch of my carbed bikes and cars, I went through the ping discovery process. For optimal power you want the timing as advanced as possible- with out pinging.
So keep track of the conditions under which pinging occurs is crucial.
with the new bikes, it is no longer an issue of riding around with a wrench, screwdriver and head full of smarts to tune it with the "butt-dyno"

I've got the same cams in my se 103. If it's really hot outside, I get some mild ping If I'm 2 up. About the same rpm as you. The timing on these cams is such that it will likely be hard to tune out. I just add a little octane boost and ride the hell out of it. These cams were designed by Andrews just for 96" baggers. Fact is, they work Well. So Well, I'm willing to live with adding a little booster in the heat. My scoot has a sert. It has to be 90*+ to get it to ping so I'm OK with it. My peak torque is at 2200 rpm. I'm not familiar with the tts, but surely the tune can be fine tuned a little better. Add a little more fuel or subtract a little timing, or perhaps it's an exhaust issue making it hard to tune out. You might give Andrews a call and see what they can suggest. Their customer service is pretty good....
