Default upgrade cams?

I will soon need to replace cam tensioners. I would like to upgrade cams to andrews 21 but I cannot afford to install the new hydraulic set up I know I will need adjustable push rods. are there any problems doing that? If so I will wait to upgrade cams until I can afford the hydraulic plate, ( I'd sure like to upgrade cams now) also the bike is carbed and rejetted. will any adjustments need to be made to the carb when upgrading the cams
thanks

It has been running this long without hydraulic tensioners. No real need to it. The adjustables aren't really needed either with 21s. Yes you should at least re-jet. Good luck!

I made that decision about 5 years ago, the warranty was out, I tore the bike down to install my 211 cams, and found the tensioners were worn. I had already purchased the cams, gaskets and shim kit so was committed to the chain drive cams. I simply replaced the cam tensioners, stayed with the original oil pump and chain drive for the cams. That was maybe 20 or 25k miles ago so i need to consider pulling it back down for the next set of tensioners

My favorite upgrade to my bike was the Andrews 21's.

I would just give Andrews a call about fitment with the stock tensioners, they were super helpful for me.

My carb had previously been re-jetted, but my indy just tweeked a couple of settings and it runs fantasitic.

You will be so happy with the performance of the 21, pulls like a friggen freight train. Enjoy.

Thanks for the reply. did you do adjustable push rods? been doing my homework and the andrews 21 seem to be a good choice. I want the extra power from 2800 rpm to 3500+ for freeway passing 70-85+mph and for those long uphill grades.
thanks

I did go with the HD SE adjustable push rods because my indy did not pull the tank and cut the old rods out. Those were his recommendation. So far so good after two seasons.

Right after I got the cams put in we headed out to Colorado. Big difference on the long grades with this cam. You will also love the off the line torgue on these cams also. Quick out of the hole.
