Guys, my 2001 RK is less than a month old to me, got her pre-owned with 18,900 miles. Stage I A/C, SE touring slipons and previous owner has installed PC3 USB.
She runs good, I've only put 20 miles so far since getting her. Here's my concern after riding 10 miles today, There's this loud rhytmic, like tapping/knocking noise on idle. More pronounced on the left side of the engine and possibly coming from rear cylinder. It seems louder than valve noise. Should I be concerned? This is my 6th Harley and I dont remember my other TC-88 bikes having this much noise. I have two videos, one is the warm up from cold start and the other one was taken after my 10 mile ride. The ambient temp here was between 36-42F. Bring back to the dealer?
Sounds like a lifter. Get a stethoscope or some 1/4" I.D. hose and try to pinpoint the sounds origin. One thing I seen in the 2nd video is that your horn is loose. Nice looking bike. look's pretty clean. Did you get a deal?
Thanks, I'll try that tomorow. It was a great deal, for a price of a sportster, got a roadking . Also, They gave me 30 days pre-owned warranty. They already fixed a leaking return line and they've been good so far. It sux coz it's still winter and cold and cant really ride that much. Yeah the horn seems loose and I already replaced the heim joints on the shifter...the old ones were rattling like crazy.

While checking the lifter--If it has an upgraded cam it likely has adjustable pushrods. Might want to check and make sure the nuts arent loose on them.
Thanks guys. I called the dealership this monrning to describe what was happening and they were kind enough to pick it up. I'll update you guys on what they find. I normally do my own mods and minor wrenching, but since they offered the pre-owned warranty, I'm hoping they do the right thing.
Update: got my baby back this morning. (thanks bellmore harley). Tech said the cold idle and warm idle were corrected & adjusted to specs. Also they fixed the decell pops. Motor mounts are OK. Since it's still winter and very windy here I was only able to test ride it a few times around the block. The noise has diminished, not as pronounced as before. All fluids were checked and ok. They didnt find anything abnormal aside from the idle and decell pops. I'm hoping that's all it is. Hopefully the weather will be better so I can ride a bit more and see if it does it again.
