I called a freind of mine a dick once, and he said oh ok, like you're not a dick... My answer to him was... i did not say you are a dick and i am not, i just said that you are. We were talking about one specific part, where it's made, whether the price paid for it reflects where it's made, and whether the quality is any better than the cheaper versions based on where it's made. Didn't ever say anything about where any other parts of a harley are made. Idealy it would be cool if we had american bike completely made in america, but that just isn't an atainable reality any longer.
Yes, it would be nice if that were the case wouldn't it?
Back in the day, when HD (late 70's, early 80's, still shovel AMF era)
was most definately afraid of the japanese factor they were the ones who pushed American made.
Kinda ironic now isn't it?
However they still have instilled the psychology of buying American though, which is not the case at all anymore.
I guess it's still patriotic to buy from an American company though, even though the bulk of it's parts are made in Indonesia, or China, even though it's not cool to buy from an Asian company and the bulk of it's parts are made in America.
With that said, I really wonder who is more American?
What would you say?

My statements were made from a purely idealogical view... i'm not deluded or stupid, i know they're not "all American" anymore, just like ford and chevy are no longer american made cars. That being said, i still love a harley. the history and heritage, the look, the sound, the feel... most of the reasons folks give to not like harleys are the reasons i do love them. there is no other bike like them, for good or bad, depending on one's point of view. Don't get me wrong, i guess it's hard to guage attitude through text, but i wasn't being argumentative, mostly just being a smartass.
Nope. It would be true if you had said a lot of their t-shirts come from other countries. It would also likely be true if you said a lot of their apparel comes from China.
T-shirts are often anywhere BUT China. If it helps the shirt is finished in the USA (screen printing).
Well, in the early eighties MoCo fixed their oil leak problems by sourcing a lot of their engine components from Japan as well as brakes, wheels, electrics, forks etc.
A person sees these all the stuff being sourced from overseas yet the prices do not reflect it. Not too long ago you could buy american made Levi's for around $25 or so. They have closed all their plants in the U.S. and now make their stuff wherever it's the cheapest. Their prices are now around $50 on average. It has happened over and over across the whole spectrum of goods that we depend on and use everyday. A carton of orange juice is now 59 oz instead of 64 oz, a gallon of ice cream is now a qt and 1/2. Ragu sauce, a staple of american famlies, has gone from 36 oz to 22 oz and won't even feed a family of four anymore. I'm as guilty as the next person in rationalizing buying the lowest cost items, but I have to agree with the person who said that when we all make 60 cents a day then the jobs will come back here. The downward spiral hasn't even .......
I started looking for a HID headlight kit and looked at some feedback from this forum... many guys were satisfied with DDM Performance so I went with them... I waited over 2 weeks to receive the kit and when I did it was mailed to me DIRECTLY from China.. DDM doesnt even put their hands on these... so they charged me $60 and probably went on ebay and purchased one of these $20 kits and had it mailed to me.. LOL!!
