Default Two quick questions

OK, the heat is on in the garage. I'm putting my air cleaner and slip-ons on. 1, when you remove induction support bracket do you do anything special with the wires that were on it and ,2 can you re-use the exhaust clamps for the slip-ons? The bike only has 500 miles, but Harley has part numbers for new clamps in the instruction.

The clamps are designed to be a single use according to HD. I have always replaced them. That's entirely up to you though.

If The Motor Company tells you to get new clamps, they are only looking out for your best interests.
You think they would just try to generate extra profits through your ignorance ?
Next thing you know they will be selling over priced clothing of dubious quality from China.

Do I detect a hint of sarcasm.......

If they were different I would change them, but they are brand new, clean, and the drive to the dealer is more in gas than the clamps...

when the Torca clamps are torqued to spec, they deform.

they are a one-use item. it is the amount that they are deformed from round, not the mileage on them or the shiny-ness

I reuse mine, but I am willing and able to chase down leaks.

it is up to you, your abilities and the time you want to devote to this if you have to redo your work once or twice.

If you do buy new clamps, torque to the lower end of the specified range- if that seals well, then you can probably get another use out of them at the higher end of the torque range down the line.

Larry, At the very least I would recommend that after your first ride ( make it a short one ) you recheck the mufflers and be sure that they are still "fully engaged" with the head pipes and that they are tight ... it is not uncommon ( actually quite common ) to have issues with the clamps after they have been used more than once ( I can attest to this from personal experience ) ... I replied to a similar post some time ago and was informed that I didn't install the clamps properly ... nothing could be further from the truth ... I'm a retired ASE mechanic who owned my own shop for more years than I care to remember ... It only takes a minute to check it ... Imagine the damage ( to you and the scooter ) if the muffler slipped off and the inlet contacted the ground ... Generally there is enough engagement to the front pipe to keep this from happening as the rear support shouldn't allow the muffler to slip completely off ... But, what if it did ?? 65296-95a should be the clamp number from HD
The *.pdf is just for reference ... http://www.harley-davidson.com/en_US...ts/-J04262.pdf

I worked in a bike shop for 10 years or so. I just didn't know is the pn# for the new clamps were some upgrade for the slip-ons. I reused them, If they leak I'll get new ones when I'm in the city. As for the wires on the support bracket, I put a plastic coated wire clamp in one of the holes, than ran a tie rap through the center of the plastic clip, very neat and clean.
