I wouldn't run Vista, and with Win 8 being so new I wouldn't jump to that just yet for what you want to accomplish.
Window 8 will work with it also. You have an option to load it up using the 64-bit version, 32-bit is for XP/7. It should all be in the options as you do the setup from the disc. It will walk you through, easy to do.
I run Virtual Box on the Mac, it's just like VMware or parallels but it's free! Oracle wrote it.

Couple of ?'s on the power vision. Does it plug into the data port like the SEST? Also do I need to leave it attached to the bike like I have seen some on here do? I'm not really wanting to have something on the handlebars all the time. I like that no laptop is needed to run it but I don't see me needing to tune while out on the road.
