I just picked up this road king and am thinking I would like to put the hard bags in place of the leather ones is it just a simple bolt on conversion? What hardware is needed other than the bags?
make sure you keep them leather bags around, they don't make them road king customs anymore, if you ever wanna sell that, them bags may be an important part of the bike to potential buyers.
Truth be told, the customs weren't very popular. It's true they don't make them anymore, but it's because they didn't sell well.
Don't get me wrong, I like Road Kings of all sorts, but keeping the bags in case someone may want to change them back? If you put on a nice set of hard bags, it might be a better idea to sell the leather covered ones on ebay to get some of your money back.
Before you buy, it might be a good idea to check out some of the aftermaket bags. There are some real nice stretched bags out there, for decent money. Also, remember if the hardware ( hinges and latches etc) aren't included. It'll cost you around $300 for a new set from HD.
