I get lower back pain riding long distances. Been considering getting a back rest for my 12 SG. Any input from those who uses one on ride difference and comfort would be greatly appreciated. Also, brand choices would be helpful. Thanks.
My wife rides with me a lot so will back rest interfere in any way with her comfort??
i use the harley cable adjust, huge improvement won't ride without it,but.... it keeps the wifes legs spread,i have to keep it up and forward for her,the harley one is the biggest so unless your wife is tiny u may consider a brand with smaller pad.the aftermarkets are easy to adjust just not while seated.mustangand one or two other seat makers does backrest.
I have the HD backrest with a sundowner seat. After getting it set where the sweet spot is it's wonderful and made a huge improvement on long rides with my trashed lower back. The pass area is cut down alot and I tend to leave it off if I am riding two up. Same problems with the pass legs being pushed way out even with the seat at the top of travel..
Truly it makes a world of difference, I use the Signature Series Solo seat with integral backrest but have the back seat portion too for if I need to put it on the bike

same seat, same backrest, and same outcome! Love it!
Running HD backrest for 3-yrs and wouldn't leave garage w/o it. Mine's non-cable (adjustment), but there are various settings/angles to dial it into your liking. Doesn't interfere w/passenger at all, but I would recommend getting hard-bag lid protectors to prevent nasty scratches on bag tops...all it takes is one swipe & you'll be steaming all the way home.
Had the hd adjustable with the cable etc...personally couldn't deal with the looks of it. Then installed the CVO street glide one. Much smaller pad, good looking, fits me just right. I'm 6 ft 240. Love it. I'd never take it off.
