Oil presure problem
While not directly related to this discussion, it seems like a good place to post. I lost oil pressure a couple of blocks from home, last week. The gauge reading zero and the oil light on. Blip the throttle and the gauge increased and oil light went out. Let the bike idel down andoil light cam back on. Didn't sound like the valves were starved for oil in the"gentle" two block ride to the house. Had it trailered to the Harley shop and after three days they are still not sure what to do. They are talking about replacing the cam plate?? Of course, there won't be any parts ordered until Monday and who know when or if they'll diagnose the problem and get it fixed. Anyone else had a similar problem? 06 EGC, less than 8K miles (nealry all highway). HD Synthetic all HD service, not non-Harley parts except air horn. Sure hope someone can offer a suggestion or two. Thanx

I concur with SteveO statements.
What is your oil psi and oil temp at the following conditions:
1. When starting cold and at idle?
2. When hot at idle?
3. When driving down the Hi-way when cold or cool?
4. When driving down the Hi-way when engine is up to full operating temp?
Additionally, I would not advise doing what the dealer says in this instance, especially with out getting a "second" opinion!
Note that, I don't have an '07, but my '06 starts with oil psi cold at +/- 20 psi.
When driving down the highway its normally about+/-38 to40 psi when not fully up to normal operating temp, in other words engine isstill some what cold (or cool).
Further driving as engine heats up to normal operating temps, theoil psistays about+/- 25to32psi on the Hi-way.
At hot engine idle my oil psi will drop to right about 4 psi at idle.
I concider all this normal for my '06 FLHRI RK. Running marine gauges for temp (140* to320*gauge)an psi (0 psi to 80 psi gauge), high qualityLivorsi's that I've installed. My oil is RedLine in all three holes, with a H-D priemum oil cooler. My hot oil is not over 230*.
I would expect yours to run some what close, unless you are having some real problem.

just go to show some of you what I've been saying all along.
HDMOCO know about all the problems we are having but doesn't care about anything but their bottom line.
To actually agree to fix all the problems out there with their own money would bankrupt them.
To actually engineer it right before putting it out in the real world, would make sense, but would cost them develpoment time and money they don't want to spend, especially if they can convince enough people to just put up with junk and put you off untill warranty runs out, or blame it on your after market parts that in many cases their authorized dealers sold you, hey they made more profit.
So DON"T take it lying down, file a complaint with HDMOCO customer service and get a reference number and keep after them until you are satisfied.
And all else fails look up the lemon law for your state and use it.
When they get nailed enough times in court then they might change their ways.
Also go to their website, send Email to investor relations and complain to them.
Then when warranty is out and you're not satisfied, do what I am going to do if mine isn't right this time.
1 can of KYLON YELLOW
1. stencil of a lemon.
custom paint the bike and ride it all over town and get it in the paper and just give them a media frenzy they don't want!
Enjoy life Jack and coke sure relaxes me!!!!!

As the bike gets hot, any oil thins out and you will hear more mechanical noise. A heavier oil will only keep the noise down untill it gets hot and thins out. (the used car thing mentioned above). My bike is noisy on a hot day after riding a couple of hours.
Don't know what oil you are running, (hope it is not an automotive oil), but you may want to try a good 100% synthetic motorcycle 20W50 oil, AmsoilMCV or Mobil 1 (don't want to get into the oil battle here, these are what I have had success with for 25 years) and a premium HD or a K&N oil filter. Your filter may be the problem, not enough flow, to much back pressure. I assume you have the correct amount of oil in the bike? I check mine cold.
On a 95-98 degree day my 05 Ultra oil temp runs around 240+ in and out of traffic, with around 4 PSI oil pressure at idle, and sometimes the oil light flickers when stopped at a light in this heat.
Dino oils loose their viscosity and lubricity when hot, synthetic is more stable under high oil temps (again don't want to get into the oil thing here, just stating known facts).
You may have a hot running bike and may need an oil cooler, but they don't do much in traffic, only on the road.
Hope this helps.

Thanks. SteveO. The bike is pretty quiet when the weather is cool and the oil pressure stays around 30 on the road. What happens is when it gets hot, the lifters peck like a car that has run out of oil. It also seems to have a lot less torque and runs hotter. I have repeatedly complained to 2 local dealers, and I cannot get anyone to acknowledge that I have a problem, They suggested I put louder pipes on to cover up the noise. Any suggestions as to What can I do to resolve the problem? I,ve asked on this forum many questions, trying to find out what to do, to fix it. Thanks Dan

After the service, the noise came, lifter noise, tranny noise... So at 2500mi. I went back to HD 25-50 and Formula + in the trans and primary..
Noise Gone... I was told by HD this is normal, Synthetic oil is a bit noiser.. But I can't stand the noise... Makes me think I got bum rushed for 23 grand...

This sounds alot like the problem I had with mine last year. Make sure the engine is not SUMPING... if you seem to have no power and at idle the oil pressure is all most 0 and the light is coming on... have them check it for the SUMPING. That's what mine had, a cut o-ring on the oil pump. Tech said it was cut at the factory during install. Crankcase if filling with oil and oil pump is not returing the oil.

you have a mechanical problem, it could be the oil pump, bearing clearences, or a few other things, but if your oil light is flickering on there is a problem, and putting thicker oil i it is only going to mask the real cause.
You need to get a guage on that motor and get some numbers. I can tell you that usually by the time the light comes on, the damage has already been done. If the dealer is not co-operating, please give your local independent shop a shot at diagnosing the problem. Then armed with thier diagnosis go back to the selling dealer and make them fix it.

wellfew things you could try.
1. Call HDMOCO 1-414-343-4056 then if you have a touring bike (I forgot what one you said)
select menu item 4 then 4 again this is touring warranty issues.
Make them give you a reference number about your complaint.
keep a thorough log book of your trips to dealer, who you talked to and about what.
what their silly *** ideas to correct or ignore the idea is/was
2. read your state lemon laws and file a complaint that way.
3. get in direct contact with other people here and elsewhere with the same problem with
phone numbers and addresses and file a written complaint with HDMOCO (won't do any good
but you will need this in court to prove your case)
4. Go to HDMOCO website, go to investor relations (they take Email and respond to you),
Explain the problem to them and give them all the issues. Will it do any good don't know.
All else fails do what I am going to do if mines not fixed right this time.
Going to paint yellow lemons on it along with the dealers name and carry copies of my invoices with me everywhere to prove my point that HDMOCO is putting out a sh*tty bike and rather
than fix the issue right blame it on something else.
Normally when engine parts get thoroughly warmed up tolerance dewcreases Everything gets
tighter which should quiet down any ticking and clicking noise.
Try this, buy a cheap mechanics stethoscope. Take the bike out and ride it until symptoms occur.
Pull over to a safe spot and use it to listen to the different engine parts at idle and while revving it up. This will help you determine where the noise is originating from.
Then take it to a dealer and repeat it with them listening.
Take it from there.
1 can of KRYLON Yellow .........................$4.59
1 lemon shaped stencil ..............................$1.19
Riding down the road peoples faces
PRICELESS !!!!
