Default Lowering Kit Clearance

I am purchasing a 1-1/4" lowering kit from SoLow Mototcycles for my '05 RK standard. This is simply a bracket that drops the lower shock mount 1-1/4" down, and back. I have Vance and Hines slip ons on my ride now. In measuring this, it looks like I may have to drop my exhaust down about 1/4" to meet the clearance. That is, the new location of the shock bolt bay rub against the current location of the exhaust. Not much, but they may make contact. Has anyone had any experience with this?

Bill,

I have Rineharts with the same kit you are ordering. I had no problems at all. The only clearance I was worried about was the tire and fender with a load. I had no problem with that either. Let me know if you have any complications when installing.

Terry

P.S. the ride and handling were better with the lowering kit than with the low profile shocks.

Bill,

I had to think about your problem for a minute before it finally hit me. If you are measuring down from your bolt 1 1/4 inch and hitting your pipe then don't worry about it. The lowering kits work by moving your shocks back which changes the angle of your shock and lowering it at the same time. I don't think the bracket will be more than about a half inch lower than the shock bolt and about an inch to the rear.

Thanks, I was measuring along the same angle the shock currently pitches at. I have exactly 1-1/4 inches to the shock, at that angle. I was wondering if it's because my pipes are ovals. If worse comes to worse I guess I could make up a 1/4" billet spacer for the rear exhaust mount. Sometimes the jobs that appear the easiest give you the biggest headaches.....know what I mean?

didn't i read somewhere that these kits dont work with the road king classic because of the way the hard leather bags are "molded" around the shock?

That is true Iceman. However they will work with the hard bags. They do make kits for the leather bags but I think it puts them out at a weird angle. The SoLow products work well and are very well made. I have spoken to the owner and have a set on my roadglide.

Hey Terry,I know you lowerd your front end also and was wondering if it is a must to do this if I put the Solow kit on the back of My Electra Glide.

Thanks in advance.

Craig, that's what I plan on doing. I figure on the Street Glide just the rear is lowered, so I plan on seeing how I like it , before deciding whether or not to do the front.

Craig

I just lowered the rear of my Electra Glide only and it rides and handles better than before.[sm=yikesomg.gif]

Bill and Craig,

You can lower the rear and leave the front stock. Bike will handle great. I lowered my front to give it a cool look. Also the harley front forks are very soft and don't handle that well on curves. I put Progressive springs in the front, lowering it 1 1/4 inch. It handles very nice on curves now and looks great. I'm only 5-8 and need all the help I can get.
