Default Ape Knowledge needed TBW

I want apes for my 2009 RK Classic. I've been trying to study up on Forum, but still have questions....Do I need risers? On an 09, what cables can be run in bars, what goes outside? What length for 16's. Would like to hear different opinions and get a good discussion going? I just want to do it right, no shoddy, half *** crap. I am not a mechanic by trade,(electrician/lineman) and would have buddies help out on install. Advice appreciated, thanks...

All wires go inside - switches and throttle

Brake cable and clutch cable outside

If the bars you buy step down to 1" in the center (like 90% do), no special risers needed.

A 1 piece top clamp is highly recommended for apes as well.

Thanks, where are splices usually concealed? Any tricks, or uh-ohs on fishing wires? What about TBW cap at end of throttle? Sorry, new to me. Only experience on this is changing grips. Didn't have to mess with it. I will do more homework, just thought some of you might want to talk about something else besides Obama, laffing devils, or naming bands. Thanks again!

why is there another thread on handlebars? A simple search would yield a multitude of threads on handlebars, apes, tbw, cable lengths and installs

All depends on what bars you select. And let me tell you they'll be a ton of suggestions on bars here. I think some are more congested inside...RUFFER and makes passing control wires a pain? Seems to me?

I came close to writing a small book on procedures for this. However, I'd recommend you look over Hill Country Customs.
http://www.hillcountrycustomcycles.com/

You can get a complete set of wired bars from them ready to go...just like plug and play. And at a height you might want from them plus the bar clamp and maybe new polyurethane riser bushing. I recommend these polyurethane riser bushing ...but its subjective on here...some say NO others say Yes?

Get some electrolytic compound to grease all the plugs once in there. Makes for better conductivity plus help water proof to some degree.

Also have on hand red lock-tite for the riser bolts. A manual helps too.

This will cut down all the steps for doing this...It can be a major chore...but it can be done easier now-a-days?

ALL IMHO of course.

NOTE:
I'm not familiar with HCC quality but if you search on here you may find something about them?

If you decide to go with HCC, be sure to ask what the exact length of the bars are from bend to bend. The reason I say this is, there 14" bars measure 16" bend to bend, go figure. I know this because I've had three sets of HCC. The 14" bars I have on my 2010 EGC measure 16". You can get them at any stage you want, from just bars or fully wired ready to install.

Because it's easier to ask My questions, and have someone who doesn't mind, answer them. It sure beats surfing for hours trying to find them. People that don't want to answer, don't have to. Sorry to take up precious internet space. Thanks again for those that helped.
