Think I would still try a compression gauge to verify u got cam timing right even though it started. Pretty sure a finger can't tell the difference between 80 psi and 190 psi. Still a good thing to verify when u do a job like this
goood luck with the reading and dont get the urge to take take it out if it looks nice in next couple of weeks see post on salt on rims it aint worth it
canu post compression readings when u get them im curious if they compare to my 197 i got in both my 103 cylinders
Let the tests begin.
Disconnected battery(+)- no change.
Pulled plugs, stuck finger in to check comp.- compression good both cyl.
Checked spark- good spark.
Good news comes with embarrassment. When checking for spark, I could clearly see plug boot almost covered the sparkplug. I checked this three times before but never really pushed hard enough to push it on that far. Soooooo, as you have guessed I earn the dummy of the week award.
Bikes awesome and sounds great.
Thanks to all who shared in this learning process.
Rite on, I like it when We can fix Our self induced problems with the help of fellow forum members. No truck/trailer ride to the shop, WAY COOL, ndfrspd
2009blackpearle, thanks. I plan to do that. My tester is currently MIA. Will pick up a new one this weekend.
Can't wait for the snow to melt now.
If you have an AUTOZONE, O'REILLEY'S, etc. near you, they will loan you a compressor tester. The few bucks you will save can go towards your new back tire.
ndfrspd - I agree with bud. Bike has only been on trailer once. Main bearing failure coming home from Arizona.
WestTexasRanger - I wish it were that easy. We do have a NAPA here though. I will see what they will do. Small towns don't have city conveniences.
