i bought a 02 flhpi (in sig pic) a year ago for $9000. it had 12 800 miles on the clock & really clean unit throughout. price for the one you are looking at could be slightly high given year & mileage combined. but it does have the fairing, lovely paint & maybe some decent performance mods already done. shame you cant get more info on service history. take it for spin mate. how does it ride. give it some poke after it has warmed up in the driveway. see how the seller reacts to that & also look for the obvious signs of smoking etc. take someone with you thats know something about hd's. that way its not all new & they should be able to spot anything really glaring. good luck with it.
the efi you speak of is the m&m injection. unfortunately it does not have heaps of fans. the moco changed to the delphi systems in 02 which are better.
I own a 2000 Ultra and can tell you the MMI EFI is a pain, I finally threw a PC3 USB, Rush exhaust and Fuel Moto intake on it to get it sorted out. It took 2 maps from Fuel Moto to find that right map but runs great now.
Most places simply cannot tune it or will try to talk you into converting over to carb.
The main breaker recall is also an issue though much easier to fix.
The lack of maintenance history would be cause for concern; I am sure that if it is running a power commander that most likely the cams have been changed over. I would also eye ball the cam tensioners, upgrade the cam plate if it hasnt been done.
Plus while you are in there go to gear drives. This is next on my list I did my tensioners and still hate that worry feeling I get from time to time.
Over all I really like the 2000 frame Ive rented a few of the newer bikes and can tell there is a difference but not so much Im going to run out & buy a newer bike.
For the money & the miles it sounds good.
Best of luck let us know what you do, we are curious.
Great looking bike. I've had my 2000 police bike for about a little over a year now. Although mine was never a service bike. It is actually as police Shriners edition. Like TO34 said, the MM EFI is a pain and mine did have trouble with the idle but I had a PC3 installed and no more problems. Mine only has around 27k on it so I haven't checked the tensioners yet but I am going to here in the next few months. It is a great platform to start with but it doesn't really look like that one needs a whole lot.
Good luck and enjoy. Oh and I would offer the guy just a bit less and see if he will bite.
I have a 2000 flhtpi e-glide cop bike ... and I Love It! Its my first bike and couldn't be happier...Gone the last 2 years up to Americade at Lake George and had a blast! Bike performed beautifully and it was comfy...mine has 41000 on the odometer...Good luck with it if you do buy it...you wont be disappointed....
thanks again guys. a meet up is scheduled for sunday. it's actually a trade deal. i'd be willing to sell my vehicle for 7,500 so that's what i'd consider the purchase price i'm putting in the bike. investment wise is more, but that's what happens in hot rodding.
he's coming by and hope to confirm the deal unless something scares me off. i've got videos and more pics. he's a good dude and knows his stuff. the bike appears well taken care of and i'm going to dive in to correct any small things i see. so small build thread to follow.
be warned, tons of newb questions and threads to be posted, haha. i'll do my fair share of searching before though
i run a 2000 road king, the M&M efi hasn't caused me any trouble, and they generally don't as long as you don't go to nuts with the motor. Forcewinder intake and vance and hines exhaust is all i've done. My cam chain tensioners were shot at 35k. So, watch them damn tensioners, and if you're a mellow cruisin kinda guy, the M&M should be just fine, if you're a more aggressive kinda rider and are going to be looking for a bunch of performance, the M&M is likely going to become an issue for you.
good to hear. then the computer should be just fine for me. i'm just looking to enjoy cruising the bike and riding around the area. i'm in louisiana, so year round riding season here. my "go fast" days are over now, so now worries on performance mods other than some nice exhaust.
the current pipes are awful. and some guy wrapped them, so i'm sure the coating is shot. so once i have the bike i'll be finding some stock head pipes and trying to decide on what mufflers i want. a buddy of mine had a reinhart setup and it sounded great. nice mellow deep throaty sound. but damn are they expensive. time to hit the search button a few times and see what fits good and is a quality product

Try a set of Rush slip-on's, I have a set & very pleased, have that nice mellow rumble but you get on it & you'll know it. Fit and finish is outstanding.
