Default CB & Weather channels

Does anyone use either their CB or Weather radios ?? We are planning 5 days in the Mountains and Cell reception is poor at best. I have been considering a hand held to keep in the bags for weather and emergencies. Does the weather stations provide any good info while on the road ?? And will the cb be of any reall assistance in an emergency??

Well the cb is only good if there is some one listening. My friends and I used to use cb's all the time but thier range is limited. I believe the state police still monitor chanel 9 for emergencies but you will be lucky to get a couple miles range from a cb unless you got some extras in it. If your going to be close to highways chanel 19 is the old truckers favorite. However, I would suggest a gps unit so you can give exact coordinates incase you need to call for help.

As far as the weather radio goes I havent used mine yet, it seems to just tell me things that I already know. For example im sitting there soaked and it might tell me its raining!

I've only used the CB when the highway was closed due to a huge accident to find out how long of a wait I was in for. I just listened to the truckers talking, while I spread out a sleeping bag on the grass and waited till they started advising it was moving again.

I do use the weather radio if I think a storm might be coming just to confirm direction so I might choose another route . The cb is used whenever trafffic is backed up. With the advent of cell phones, getting help is much easier.

I use the Wx occasionally...in remote areas, it will cycle through doaens of channels...sometimes never really picking one up.

The CB??? I run both a helmet and hand held mic (depends on if I'm 2 up or not or w or w/o helmet)....BUT.....how do you change the CB channel w/o having to enter set up? That damn red radar screen is hard to see in bright sun with shades of a smoke visor on and the steps seem to be too much to fool with at speed.
