Default Road trip advice

Riding from Albuquerque, NM to Oregon in June. Need sugestions on best route. We're thinking about running over to Bakersfield then up.

Trying decide between I-5 and hwy 99. I'm open to other suggests as well.

And on the way back we want to hit route 1. Any suggestions regarding Rt 1 or 101?

Thanks

I can't comment on the second half of your question (Route 1 versus Route 101) but I would highly recommend Highway 99 over I-5. The scenery is awesome anywhere you go in Cali, but Highway 99 is my absolute favorite.

Rt 1 or the PCH (pacific coast highway) is definately something to see, you can pick it up at say, Santa Monica Pier and head up to the Golden Gate Bridge, some people like going up rather than down because they are on the inside lane. With all the beautiful stops along the way, you might want to make it a 2 day trip just for that route alone...Have a great trip! wish I was goin

Hwy 50 across Utah, Nevada, lots of open country, then 395 N to Oregon (personally I would avoid the traffic on I-5 and 99)

I concur with those who recommend 101 over 99. If you are going up the inside route, take 395 more or less to Susanville and catch 97 at Klamath Falls or take 31 to LaPine.

You did not say when in June or where in Oregon. Early June will find it still cold in the passes, later June it starts to warm up. Weather will still be your deciding factor, probably making your decision only a few days before you leave.

N. Cal Coast and Oregon coast can be cold and wet in June, or Spectacular. Likewise, the inside route can even get snow in the passes that late, but it is rare.

Tw'er me, I head up the inside route through Mammoth Lakes, wind up in Susanville, head for LaPine and if Portland was my destination, go through Madras and 26 into Portland.

Then headed for home, I'd hit 101 at Tillamook and take the coast route South as far as I could. Those above made a good point, while the coast is beautiful both ways, you are on the view side all the way when headed South, giving you lots of opportunity to stop and take in the sights.

Or take in Utah and catch 50 over to 395.

out of AB i would head north and take 550 to Farmington, then 64 west then 491 NW then 191 N. I would then run south on I 15 to pick up 50 into Carson City. I would run 395 out of carson city down to 120 then go through yosemite I would then book over to the bay, cross the Golden Gate and pick up the PCH. But that's just me. REally depends on the number of days you have to ride. The route above, gets you some mountains, the lonelyiest road in america, the loop around the lake, eastern sierras, the park, the golden gate the the PCH. Hell thats a number of american landmarks and a great ride

Where in oregon? Hwy 395 is much better than 5 or 99 for sure. But if your going to portland that might not work for you.
