Just got my crank and cases assembled and back in the frame. Question is... Does it matter which side of the motor I start assembling 1st? It doesn't seem clear in the service manual if one or the other matters. Compensator or cam chest. My guy says to do the comp 1st but it would be nice to have verification. You guys have been so helpful on my first full build. A huge learning experience.
It was stated that the compensator pre-loads the crank shaft bearing thrust tolerances. Not totally sure how that'd work, since everything on the primary side of the crank shaft is independent of the outer race. But I'd still go with the Primary side first, especially since the manual doesn't seem to make any distinction...
IMO it doesnt matter. Once youve latherd everything in assy lube lay the case on its side and drop in the crank then the outer case half. On my B model the crank goes in the cam half first.

Yea I dont pick mine up much unless im looking for specs. For me a parts manual is much more valuable as far as looking at breakdowns. I got a few years under my belt holding a wrench though.
