Have spent hours reading everything on forum about stereo systems and want to thank all of you. I do have one final question. I am installing Polk MM651 in lowers and am wondering if I can leave out the seperate crossover if I don't use the tweeters. Will be very simple install if I simply use the 2 wires I have there now. Otherwise 4 new wires to lowers and locate crossovers in fairing.
P.S. I am another convert from RF 4 chan to SS 4.520 amp. Now I just need a sticker that says "SOUND BY ULTRANUTZ"
You could omit the crossover but you would not be getting the most out of your system. There would be signals ment for the tweeters going to the woofers. If it were mine I would mount the crossovers in the fairing and wire it up like it should.
Another option would be to use the Polk Audio MM651UM speakers because the unit is all inclusive. Crossovers are mounted to the speaker assembly, tweeters are mounted to the grill, and there is no tweeter stalk coming thru the woofer. This does change the mounting requirements so I do not know if it would work in the lower speaker boxes. They also might need a coat of paint to hide them a bit (they are silver) and they do not come apart.
Yes ya can but why would ya want to? They are designed as a system to give the full range of frequencies. Leaving out the tweeters leaves out the highs! Ya should have gone with coax instead of components??

MM651's are coax but there is a crossover that goes with them. There are 2 sets of speaker connections on the speaker itself.
I have a pair of in your face tweeters on my fairing and am questioning the need for them in lowers. I think I will attach crossovers in fairing and simply omit tweeter wires to pods. Thanks for the responses
