I've thought about repainting, just don't know how good I would be at getting it apart and putting it all back together again. Also, what about resale value on a bike painted a different coler than on the title? Thanks.
The title can be updated with the new color (in VA at least.) If you don't go too crazy and personal with the design I can't see a good quality paint job negatively affecting the value.
I was in the same boat last fall when I was deciding on a new one. I owned an 01 Ultra. First thought about motor upgrades on mine but would still have a 5 speed trans. Then was drawn to the several of the SE's in the mid 2000's - still 5 speed trannys. When I got into the 6 speed tranny's it was either high mileage or it wasn't looking the best. Ended up with a new 2013 Limited thanks to the Mrs...
For me with the traveling we do the 6 speed was important that's why I ended up with what I did.
Make a list of what's important to you as far as equipment and how it relates to your riding. Go from there.
I wouldn't worry about the color thing on the title too much. When you do stuff like that your're doing it for yourself, not for the next guy.
I'll just say that Harley's custom paint program is exceptional. One drawback = Price! It's spendy, but great paint. Between the two options you've described, I definitely go with the new frame, larger tank, and go from there.
I would repaint it, if your up to removing all the parts. As long as the color or scheme is not way out there, you should not lose any value. You can always keep it simple and put some metal HD badging on the tank to give it that factory look. Looks like you got some tools there in that nice tool box in the pic, take your time and pull it apart yourself. If it does come down to the trade, the SE sounds like the way to go.
My wife absolutely does not like the color of my Ultra. So, we've looked at a couple of other bikes that she likes. One is a 2006 Screaming Eagle Ultra and the other is a 2009 Ultra Classic. The 06 has 20k miles on it, has the 103 motor and of course has all the flash of a Screaming Eagle. The 2009 Ultra is a bone stock 96", but it has the new frame and the 6 gallon fuel tank. Would ya go with the new frame and larger fuel tank, or the old frame, smaller tank of the SE, even though the SE has the 103" motor. My bike runs very good and nothing wrong with it, but if the OL can't stomach the color, its gotta go. The 09 also has 42k miles on it. 20k more that the SE. Thanks,
Guys, operative word here is WIFE! What does she want? Yeah yeah yeah who wears the pants and all that stuff. If you want to get laid again you gotta at least ask her. Then buy what you want.
