You just don't want to use a high amp draw item in the lighter socket.. a cellphone/GPS only draws a max of MAYBE .25 amp....if that. Plus the fact that the charger is converting the 12v to 5v...

I would imagine a cigarette lighter draws pretty good amperage when it's pushed in and that element is heating up. Thought I read somewhere that I could plug my Slime air compressor in there.
Edit: Looks like a 15 amp fuse that pretects that circuit. I suspect you could put anything you want to in there within reason.
Also make sure whatever plug you use doesn't hit your tank in hard left turns. The plug was put in a bad place.

I had my Garmin Nuvi charger plugged in to it and when the wheel is almost all the way left the charger hit and scratched my (less than 30 miles on) new bike... Grrrr
