Before you use that lighter port for anything, check the polarity. I found mine reversed on both my 2010 Electraglide Ultra and on my 2011 Road Glide Ultra. It blew the fuse on my Garmin because it was reversed and I had to work over the Garmin adapter to get it working again. It turned out to be an internal fuse in the power adapter.
What you should expect to find is the center contact at 12 volts positive compared to the side contact. Anything else will give you problems with any accessory that cares about polarity. That will include things like phones, GPS or similar items. I know that sounds simple but I had 2 bikes in a row wired up backwards.

That's exactly what I'm talking about. It's not a myth. Polarity doesn't matter for a cigarette lighter. Phones and GPS units are a little more particular.
maybe they are worried about cords interfering with the control of the scoot. don't want to have a liability suit if the cord gets wrapped around the bars and you have a problem turning.....just a thought.
