I posted here yesterday. 07 SG,I did the 96 to103 SG kit, 255 SE cam, 2-1 Rinehart, PCIII, Big sucker. Out of the two replies I've heard back. One said the heads are what is holding the motor back. Any suggestions. Are we talking port and polish? New and biggervalves? After market heads? To what extent do you go? Biggest bang for the buck at this stage would be?
Stock Harley heads aren't bad, but that could be the issue, along with the cam selection compared to engine compression.
What pistons/comp ratio you running?
The HD HTCC heads are pretty good, have used them and am in the process of building an 07 Ultra using the HD CNC ported heads. Cam , intake and valves will only flow what the heads will allow. There are also tons of other head builders out there that will build and grind based on whether you want HP or TQ or both.
I bought the stage two kit from HD. The 96 to 103. The one they offer on the HD website. It comes with the pistons, clutch spring,Cams, air cleaner, which I changed for a AN big sucker.I did not change the heads. The bike seems to have plenty of power. It pulls hard. I haven't been able to really rev it, due to break in. If I get 100 HP and Over 100 ft tq, I will be happy.
Got 102HP and 115 ft.lbs TQ from a 95" 03 RK, with the HTCC Heads and Pistons, Woods TW5G camand Rinehart True Duals.
Breathing is where it's at.
If cam has too much duration, overlap, low compression will hurt low end performance.
Am building my 07 Ultra as we speak, gone to 103", 10.5:1 compression, CNC ported heads, Woods TW-400-6 high lift cam, 50 mm throttle body, rinehart true duals and Green high flow filter. If I dont hit 115HP and 120ft.lbs TQ I will start over.
Should be able to run the 10.5:1 on pump gasa no problem due to am timing and short duration.
If you get 100, 100, thats not too bad without heads.
