Forget those Timken muffler bearings. I heard from a tipsy HD parts guy that there is a guy who works 3rd shift there who has a wife that once vacationed in Japan. So that really isn't a true american product. Besides they use a 6 micron spacing between bearing rollers and the MoCo will deny any warranty claims because it exceeds the 5 micron requirement.
Guys, Kury is coming out with a hot new upgrade, an aerodynamic plasti-chrome oil filter cover, that will address these mileage issues even with the stock filter.
We all know that the knurls on the stock filter (especially the chrome one...black is faster) breaks up the laminar flow over the filter, increasing turbulence and causing mini-vortices that increase drag. These vortices also trap warmer air around the jugs causing higher engine temps and further oil degradation.
The Kury cover will work with all stock oil filters (only a slight mod with a Dremel is needed to use it with the K&N for even greater MPG with that filter) for an increase of .002% increase in MPG.
I need a recommendation on which double stick tape to use, though. I've used 3M for years on my old metric bikes, but my buddies tell me that I should only use Scotch on a Harley.
Also, if I coat it with synthetic oil or dino oil, will the air pass over it even more easily???
.................but my buddies tell me that I should only use Scotch on a Harley.
Scotch, Bourbon, Canadian, IRISH, it's all good. Single malt scotch will of course give better mpg's than blended.
But from someone who goes by the name of MadIrish, you could also do worse than Two Gingers.
if all you changed was the oil filter and you're now not getting any blow-by into your intake, then that could very well be a bad thing. That oil has to go somewhere...
Actually it isn't going anywhere,I'm using virtually no oil between changes.......
