Actually spending more for quality pipes does make a difference. Go cheap and you will get cheap quality, spend a couple of hundred more and in the long run it will pay off.
Soon after I bought my new 2005 FLHTCI, I went online and found "Rolling Thunder Pipes". I think they were $199 back then, and I was a little strapped for cash, so I ordered a set, even though the website was kind of cheesy and I was certain some guy was running the op out of his garage.
I had them on my bike for about 5 years, and somewhere around 40K miles, when I replaced them with quieter Supertrapp SE's. I was amazed when I took them off. No rust at all. The chrome was perfect...And they're still laying in my garage, covered in dust, but no rust and perfect chrome...So, more money doesn't necessarily mean better quality....Usually, but not always.
I was about to order some CFR slip-ons, now I'm going with V&H. I have seen supply issues before with CFR on the V-Rod components. I think CFR has designed some great looking and performing products, they just aren't able to execute as well a larger company. They probably outsource the chroming and can't guarantee quality all the time. As far as making you ship it back and wait when you paid that much for slip-ons is inexcusable.

Your right, not always. But, I have known a couple of people that went cheap and their pipes started discoloring in a few months. I'm glad yours worked out for you.
My CFR fluted Touring are doing the same damn thing. Chrome in end caps peeling and rust at the mount bracket. Just got them when I bought my 14 Limited in February. Took it to the HD dealer this morning and they said they were having trouble getting info from CFR and couldn't get any inventory in advance from them to settle these issues. I was told to bring bike in, they will take pipes off, send them to CFR to be "fixed" and then sent back to dealer. So, it looks like at least a week process if not longer. That's BS. This company that is having a KNOWN ISSUE should be sending out good inventory to replace the crap product they put on the market. I shouldn't have to wait for them to fix anything. They should be willing to get these pipes into their customers hands so there is no downtime. I'm not a happy camper. I am seriously thinking about giving these crap pipes back to HD and getting something from a REAL company like Rinehart or Vance and Hines. It's a shame because these pipes sound really nice but look like crap!

I have never owned a pair, but I can tell those that want to spend less money on knock offs that they are better off going with Klock werks super-savers. The name is cheese but the pipes are awesome. I have had mine for 4 years and they still look great and the sound gets better with time. I also have V&H moster rounds on my 2010 limited and love the sound of the Supers on my 04 road king much better. Sorry to hear about your purchase. I hope they make it right for yeh. Ride safe!
