Default My Last Carlini ape questions, I promise

well, its been all winter and Im about ready to get the engine work and everything I want done, done.. But I still havent pulled the trigger on the bars..

I think I still Have it narrowed down between the 16 inch carlini gangster apes or the 16 inch flying apes.

Im 6'2", 240 pounds.. I think I like the look of the flying apes better, but my one concern is they seem to have a ton of pullback, does that mean my hands are gone be on my chest? lol.. can I rotate them foward a bit to get my perfect balance of reaching out, sitting up straight and leaning back a little too when I want? will rotating them foward a bit interfere with the windsheild?

Here's a pic of my bike with 16" gangsters. In the pics, they are set to accept my RKC shield. It worked just fine on my scoot. You can drop them further back, but not go much further forward than where I had them. Unfortunately shoulder operations dont like apes, so I'm back to beach bars for comfort. I hope the pics help.

Yes justjoshin, you can rotate them forward, and yes, it may interfere with your windshield if you ride with your windshield on. A quick call to Carlini will help clear up all your questions. They were really helpful to me on the phone when I called and placed my order. I don't think your hands will be in your chest. But they're designed so the Flying Apes arc slightly backwards, and the Gangster Apes arc slightly forward.

I went with the 16'' Gangster's and I'm waiting for the snow to melt before I can get them put on. Just got them a few days ago. I loved how they looked on your bike RaceFace, so thats part of the reason I went with the 16'' Gangsters, and they just look badass. I always ride with the windshield on cuz I'm mostly on freeways and highways, so I'm gonna mount them even with the forks so I can use the windshield.

I went with the 17" carlini Pist apes for my 06 road king. I like the look of apes but wanted them to slope back slightly. They are like the flying apes I believe but with sharp edges. I am tall at 6'4" and 240 lbs and I have had my new apes on for a month. I adjusted them for to just the right position and I have never been happier. I have been on several long rides and I can finally sit upright and relax. Because of the slight slope back the fit perfect with my windshield as I didnt want to ditch it or have to notch it.

Which bars can be pushed foward more? Its so frustrating.. I look at a pic with the gangster apes and say "thats awsome, Im gona get them" then I look at a pic with the flying apes and say "thats awsome, Im gona get them." I am having such a hards time deciding!!!!

I was going to go with the 1.25 widtch but Im noticing now that the 1.5 inch bars are wider.. Are they more suitable for us bigger riders?

The 1.5'' are obviously thicker, therefore easier to run the wires thru. The added beefiness of the 1.5's I think just look better on a RK. There's no wrong answer. It's what you like better. I just liked the 1.5 Gangsters better so thats what I'm running. If your gonna run with a windshield, and want your bars as forward as you can get em, I would say go with the Gangsters cuz they arc forward anyway.

Dont forget the flying ape's are about 1.5" TALLER than advertised, Im about 5'10.5" and about 215lbs. I went with the 16"x1.5" gangsters and am VERY happy with everything on the bars. Here's a rolling shot to give you an idea of about where the bars are:
