Default Screaming eagle air cleaner

My Ultra came with the Screaming Eagle air cleaner as part of the stage one the previous owner put on her. My question is, Do you clean the filter or replace it? It looks like a K&N filter to me.( It's not a big sucker or any thing fancy, just sits under the cover) If it is, I should be able to clean it, right? Thanks.

Just wash it and let it air dry. Do not oil it.

That's bizzare. They sell a K&N air filter in the screaming eagle kit, they sell K&N filter oil at the dealerships. But then they say not to apply the K&N filter oil to the K&N filter in the screaming eagle kit.

I didn't know Harley said that in their instructions, and oiled my K&N filter anyhow. Knowing how they work, I wouldn't run a K&N filter without oil. Without oil, it barely catches anything except big chunks of crud.

Many folk do over oil their K&N filter, which makes a mess in the intake. But it is a self correcting mistake.

You need to figure out if your air filter element is K & N or Harley-Davidson Screamin' Eagle. The H-D SE unit does NOT require oil. The K & N does.

The H-D filter is PAPER... Do NOT oil it, just clean it and let it air dry then re-install. I've cleaned mine 5 or 6 times before replacing it. Easy to do and saves you money.

Just to clarify...

There is the OEM Harley air fliter element, but there is also a round, Screamin' Eagle air filter element that works with the Screamin' Eagle Stage One backing plate. It looks just like the K & N and Fuel Moto air cleaners.

Both the OEM and the Screamin' Eagle Harley air filters are washable and NEITHER Harley air filter is supposed to be oiled.
