My 2006 TC 88 (Softail) is much smoother at idle that the new RK. Not complaining, afterall, it is a Harley. Just would think the smoother motor would be in the touring bikes???
I also own both a softail and a touring model.

They NEED the counter balance motor on the softails, because of the difference in the way the motor mounts to the frame. Other than idle, the touring bike is much smoother than the counter-balanced motor.

The disadvantages of the CB motor;

Have to add the CB system, which adds complexity to the motor.

It robs HP, just a little, but some HP none the less.

It causes a buzz type vibration at higher rpms. When I'm cruising at anything above 70MPH I can feel the buzz in the handle grips. My touring bike is dead smooth at 80+

Just my 2 cents....

TO the OP- I'd get it checked, especially the front motor mount as previously mentioned, your vibration doesn't sound normal based on your description....

Good luck.....

Cost factor would be my guess.
The moco is cheap.
What else is new?

2012 SG I have is smooth. Idle is little rough. When I'm riding I look at the writing on the mirror to tell shakes. Mine smooth. If the mounts are ok, the tire air ok and not weird in anyway. I would have the crank turn out checked.

Mine had excessive vibration and I took it in and had them check it out. While it was there they did the voltage regulator recall on it and told me no issues found other then the recall. Not sure if this was an issue or not but what ever it was it stopped after the visit to the stealer.
