I have a pretty good system of blocking the buffeting on my SG. But I'm getting kind of tired of looking at it. Just how effective are hard lowers at blocking the buffeting? Also how about keeping the rain off your feet and stopping the wind from blowing your pant leg up to your knee?
I like the added stability of the lowers, ( along with cooler engine temps.)
I ride to work in the rain sometimes and my boots and pant legs are still pretty much dry when I get there.
There is no wind blowing up your pant leg with lowers. ( I sometimes put my feet out onto the highway pegs just so I can get a little wind blowing up my pant legs on hotter days.)
I replaced my heads back 3 summers ago and pulled the lowers for room to work. I decided to leave the lowers off for the season to compare. The lowers were back on within 6 weeks time. They're great IMO.
The lowers on my street glide saved my left leg from sustaining major damage in a recent accident by acting as a spacer between a car and my fuel tank when the crash bar bent rearward. They do block the wind and with the folding batwing air defflectors I don't notice buffeting any more. I get wind still but seems to be clean air. No more bobble head eyes rolling around past 50
I wouldn't trade them for nothing! They block the wind and rain. I have vents on mine that can be opened to let more air through. This is useful if it is hot out. These are very worth the money. As far as buffeting I've found if you go taller on the windshield that helps more than any thing else. The lowers help a little but the windshield will help the most. The shorty 4 in. shields cause a lot of the buffeting I've had.

I put vented lowers on mine and never looked back.luv em.
Installed mine right before my trip to Sturgis, got all kinds of weather in Colorado and glad I had them! Here is a pic near Golden, just started pouring! Kept my legs and boots from getting soaked.
