I don't know about the aluminum one your talking about, the HF lift I have has pedal, T handle, return spring mechanism etc. I've had the yellow HF jack for a couple years now and I love it....I moved the base plates out on the bolt and it made it even more stable than it was....Here it is holding up my bike when I did my ape installation:

I dont think the one you have is a current version....without looking at it who knows?

I went and checked out the HF locally and decided it wasn't the lift for me. I need a lift. I need to repair my tranny. They are quoting me 500-700.00 in labor and without a bike lift I just wouldn't be able to do it on my own.

I went and spent the $$ on the J&S lift should be here soon. I'm not going to trust my bike on a 119.00 lift. some of you peeps spend more on your grips, why scrimp on a product that holds up your 20-30,000.00 bike?

TUCCI: Not sure if its the camera but sure looks like that bolt is bending under the stress of holding your bike up, I would at least upgrade to grade 8 bolts if your going to lift it that away.

I would trust the HF jacks on the $250,000 worth of bikes in my garage. Mostly because I know how to safely maintain, secure and operate them.

Some times it is the operator and not the equipment. Just saying.
+1. My yellow HF has worked great for my RK and now my Limited. I always use the locking mechanism and I also use ratchet straps - 1 on front of the frame fastened to front of jack and 1 on the back to keep it stable. I have even climbed on the bike with it jacked up to test my highway peg placement and it was plenty sturdy.

I have a HF low profile car jack only. I have had good luck with it but still use my Craftsman for the bike. I usually put a scissor jack under the tires to stabilize the bike and keep it from rocking while I wrench.

I bought the yellow HF jack a couple months ago. It worked ok at first as far as raising and lowering, though it lowers fast. The issue I had was rolling it around. The casters didn't want to swivel under the weight. Overall, it is wobbly and a bit scarry. Then a couple of weeks ago it began to not lift the bike well. The pump mechanism would stick and not reset each stroke.
I saw another member selling a used J&S for $325 and I picked it up last night. WHAT A DIFERENCE! It's sturdy, and rolls easily across the floor. I can swivel the bike around with one hand. As I find myself using a jack all the time, the higher quality jack is a must to me.

I got over 40k into my bike. Using a cheap jack just isn't in my best interest. J&S is the way to go!

You'll absolutely LOVE your J&S when it comes. They build 'em like a jack should be built - out of steel, and solid. Hope you also bought the accessory oil change ramp - it's great.

I saw that too. I don't know if it's bending or not, but either way, load-bearing hardware shouldn't be sticking out past the pivot point like that - it's an invitation to disaster, especially with low-grade fasteners. You definitely won't see anything like that on a J&S. When people spend megabucks on a motorcycle, then try to get by on the cheap with their jacks, I'm amazed. False economy, IMO. Chinese crap in general is, for that matter.

BINGO! And, if you look around a bit, you'll find a used J&S. I bought my first for $200 sold it for $300 with the bike.

I guess they are just blind Tucci. They don't see the tab in the middle that is supporting the weight? I have used a HF yellow jack for seven years now without a problem and it still functions well. Admittedly it doesn't roll very well with the bike on it, but I don't usually want to move the jack with the bike on it.
