Default Oil Pressure question

I have noticed that my 2001 EGC oil pressure at cruise sits de?ad on 32 psi. I was out for a ride last weekend and noticed it never got above 22 psi. Does oil pressure fluctuate like that normal?

Low on oil? Next I would look at the oil pressure switch if it is still original. Oil bypass valve could be stuck open but somewhat a longshot. After that check the oil pump, lots there to go wrong. Cruising it should be 32-34.

Sounds perfectly normal, one of the biggest reasons I cant have too many gauges on my bike because I would be obsessing all the time.

I feel the same way sometimes you just gotta ride and not worry about it.

Have your cam tensioners been replaced?

Pressure should be steady and constant at speed. If not, time to do some checking. My pressure stay at 32 psi at speed (I think, will have to check when weather permits) and around 8psi hot idle.
Pressure will decrease slowly over time with normal engine wear, Sudden drop. Inspect and troubleshoot. Do you know your baseline pressure??

It usually runs at 32 psi. Yes, had cam tensioners changed when installed cam some time back. Maybe a fluke. I'll see what happens this weekend. Thanks

"IF" it is a electric pressure sending unit:

They sometimes wear out on the movement of oil pushing the do-dicky up and down (reostat). so it may be that unit needs to be replaced.

"IF" a pressure line to the guage, and the engine/oil is Not Over Hot and measures 22 lbs , I would check it with another gauge.

Memory of my 2000 FXDS is it never ran much over 28#/35# when totally Hot. Moving up and down with heat and RPM.

is it hot where you had this run? IF cold out and on highway run, that sounds a little low.

These roller bearing motors don't need a lot of pressure. Try holding back 22 lbs of air pressure on a pre-set air compressor hose with your thumb...

If it always ran at 32 before it should run the same now.

Let us know what you find.
