Quick question about the power of the 103 in my 2013 SG. I had a '09 Street Glide with only slip-ons. I put 25000 miles on it in 1 1/2 years and never felt it lacked the power I needed.
I got the '13 in January and have put 1000 miles on it. It almost seems the old bike had more power?? Is this because of the cat in the new bike? Slip-ons made up the difference? It just seems like I don't have the oomph I need when i get on the throttle.
Or is it because I had an '11 Super Glide between touring bikes and got used to the quickness of the lighter bike?
I had a 2011 Super Glide before I got my 2012 Stree Glide and until I installed the FM headers (got rid of a bunch of heat), the FM A/C, and the power vision I would have agreed. But now with the changes I feel it pulls much stronger. Just my opinion.
Thanks all. I figured it was a combination of all of that. I've already been looking at the FM stuff since it looks like everyone has been very happy with them.
SE-AC, cams, PV1 and slip ons. Big difference. I came from a Fat Bob to an FLHTC and I thought the 103 was anemic but it is all the extra weight of the bike. It didn't need the cams that was a "I want it", but it did seem more awake with then. I just used SE255 cams 'cause I like 'em. It is running good too getting about 43 two up mpg. Not trying to hijack the thread just my way of agreeing with you.
"Stage 1" it, get as far away from the EPA calibration as you can, get a few thousand miles on it, and you will not feel it lacks anything.
Out of the wrapper they are sleds, albeit the 103 feels stronger than the 96, which it should.
But as was said earlier, get some miles on them and they loosen up nicely.
I felt the same way coming from a 2011 Street Bob to a 2013 Street Glide I did the stage one on the SG and man what a differance it really wakes the bike up when it can breathe lol!
I have a 2012 Ultra with power duals and AC with SERT and dyno. I recently bought a 2009 stock RK and the RK feels much faster. I dunno if it's geared differently, or if it's just lighter, or just the joy of a new bike.
