i have had the garmin 2720 for a few years now and it performs flawlessly on the bike as well as in the truck and the price has come way down on them now around $400.00 or less i think this one has been proven and tested mine has been thru herendous rains freezing cold and blasting heat and still outperforms my expectations. try looking at www.gpscity.com they have good info on all units.
FYI....rumors say that a new firmware update for the Zumo 550 is coming out next week with lots of new features....altitude, average speed, miles to go, miles travelled....many more
I am using a Garmin Quest 2 and like it a lot. I used a combination of the Garmin MC mount and HD's clutch mount, real clean instal and the psition of the unit is just right.
We have a Garmin 2720 it is rock solid. Big touch screen easy to use with gloves no bells and whistles and can't use it to walking around . New Zumo looks like a great up grade. Garmin is the GPS of choice from what I have see on the road both on bikes and in cars. Getting lost is okay until it is time to get home then they really pay off!
IMO, Garmin makes the highest quality, most durable line of GPS units in the world. They are pretty much the line of choice in every major airline manufacturer that I know of. Service, software and updates are unbeatable. I'm sure some will disagree, but if I were going to buy a GPS, I wouldn't consider anyone else.
[sm=exactly.gif]Garmin is the parent of the modern GPS. One thing I forgot to mention when looking at none motorcycle specific GPS's is make sure they have a waterproof rating of IPX7 (not ipx4 or less)which is 30 min under1 meters of water
Garmin Quest 2 is a great unit. Weather proof, has all of US, Canada and PR loaded in, has the ability to load in POI's (I did Harley dealerships and Starbucks!) and can be moved from bike to car or hand carry. Just under $900. but I got mine from Abe's of Maine for $500 and change.
Besides being able to find resturants and lodgings, etc, last road trip we came upon and accident that had both sides of the divided 4 lane stopped and it was going to be blocked for a long time. Glanced at the GPS and saw a road marked County road 4 that was just ahead of us and paralled the 4 lane and would take us past the blockage. We went up the berm and turned onto County road 4. Within 70 yards, it was pretty much 2 tire tracks through the woods. We kept going, mostly because the cages thought we knew where we were going and we now had a line of traffic behind us. About a mile later, we came out by a logging company, onto asphalt and back to the 4 lane, past the blockage. Just being past the accident was pretty good but the looks on the south bound traffic's faces as 5 bikes and a line of cars came out of the woods was priceless!
I just purchased a Garmin 2720 from NewEgg.com - $439.00 & a $50.00 rebate. Free shipping. My first GPS - will be able to use in my vehicles & 2007 Electra Glide Classic.
I use the Garmin Nuvi 350. Large touch screen. preloaded maps and interest points. very easy to use.. Also plays MP3's. Very complex waterproof system (Clear sandwich baggy).
Very flat and light. Fits in my pocket and also snaps right into my truck or use as a handheld.
I have a Lowrance for my boadand hand held Megellan. This one is great for the road.
