Which GPS units are my fellow touring bike riders using these days. The amount of different products available is more than I would like to investigate, so I am reaching out for your help. Please make it a little bit easier for me to make a decision.
The GarminZumo 550 looks awesome and has got great reviews. Do a search on it. I'm still not sure I want a GPS on my bike, but if I decide I do this unit will probably be it. I use GPS all the time when flying, but I don't know if I like the look of it on my bike or really need it.
Zumo 550, w/ the XM NavTraffic antenna(add-on). Great on the bike, and it moves to the car easily enough. Comes with both MC and Auto mounts out of the box.
Zumo 550 for me. My wife is an Attorney and reresents quite a few kids from CPS cases. They are in foster homes so on the weekends we go on a road trip to visit them. The Zumo 550 works great for this.We enter all the addresses before we leave and plug in the headsets for step by step instructions. It also stores music, has XM, Bluetooth what else do you need.
Garmin 2610, doesn't have all the bells and whistles but a good solid GPS. they have been discontinued for a while but refurb units can be found regurarly for the low $300.00's oryou might get lucky like I did and find a new one for under $300.00
Well my work lets me play with a Nuvi 660 and I love it. I had a custom billet mount made for it to attach low on the handle bars. I will only use it for trips. Last night I just uploaded 4 GIG of mp3 songs and the 660 has a feature toplay them through your radio without a cable.
If I could do it all over again would get another zumo 550. comes with monts for bike and car. waterproff. blue tooth ,imports phone book/dials. maybe is too good? prices are going down like all technology. garmin did come out with less expensive versions with less bells and whistles for those on a budget. hell if your wife is an attorny then theres no choice.
I recently went with the Zumo 550. So far so good. I lead rides with a local HOG chapter and I plan all my rides at the desk and upload and then I have a turn by turn when leading (or following). It's great because my attention can be on the group more. Takes a little learning but worth the time.
