ultra classic CVO 103 code issues
Strange problem, started and shut down and from then on check engine and red key light steady burn, it will start after 3 or 4 times and then stay running with both lights on.
I got home and tryed to pull a code but the only thing that came up after the diganostic flash was bus-er. and it would not go past that. Later that night I tryed it again and it went thru all sections and pulled 2 codes, U1255 pn-673480 serial data error and U 1300 pn-6722-04 low serial data , was able to clear the codes, lights went out and started fine ran good for 5 miles both lights came back on and then it started the whole problem again. Hung up with bus-er Any ideas, Thanks

Each of the codes you retrieved (U1255 & U1300) and also the "BUS Er" indicate a problem with the serial data communication circuit.
Here's the possible causes for U1255...
The Electrical Diagnostic Manual has a troubleshooting sequence and process for this and many more electrical issues and is worth it's weight in gold.
Without having the manual handy to troubleshoot, about the only advice I could give is to check the battery fuse and the serial data circuit wiring. That circuit consists of the LGN/V wire that runs to each module (ECM, ABS, DLC, TSM/TSSM/HFSM, Radio, Tach, & Speedometer) and it's associated ground wire.
Here's the possible causes for U1255...
- Open battery fuse
- Open battery circuit
- Open battery ground
- Open serial data circuit
- TSM/TSSM/HFSM malfunction
- Short to ground in power circuit
- ECM malfunction
- TSM/TSSM/HFSM malfunction
- ECU malfunction
- Short to voltage in serial data circuit
- Radio malfunction
- Open in serial data circuit
- Speedometer malfunction
- Tachometer malfunction

I had a similar issue with my 06. I never use the off/run button on my controls. I always turn it off with the main switch below the handlebars. For some reason, I turned the engine off with the switch on the controls. Upon restart, the bike ran very poorly and those same lights were on. Just for ***** and giggles, I cycled the off/run switch several times, and everything was back to normal. Worth a try and doesn't cost a dime...
