I have heard that the only real difference between the RG and SG is how the fairing is mounted (frame or forks).

Are you keeping the Sportster? I ask because I have an 03 Sporty that I didn't want to get rid of so I kept it and bought an 09 Ultra to tour and keep the wife happy. I figure since I have the Sporty I can go to the other end of the spectrum and get as big of a bike I can afford. I think I have the best of both worlds now and I ride whatever I feel like riding. If you aren't going to keep the Sportster then I agree with the others who are saying to go ride all of them and go from there. My vote is for the Ultra but I am biased after riding one. Damn fine bike.

I don't know if I am keeping the sporty. Makes no difference to me really. If I get a goof value for trade in then it's going. I doubt though that I'd ride it much after getting a touring bike. It was good for a starter bike but now I want something I can go on those 4 hour minimum rides.

When you say ultra, is that the
Electra Glide Ultra Limited ?
Road Glide Ultra ?
Ultra Classic Electra Glide ?

Not my first post so dont flame me, Been a member since 2010. Forgot my flippin password I used when i was in Iraq last time and the e-mail account for there dont exist anymore, hence the name change, lol. Now I am deployed yet again, this time to Afghanistan and I read the forums daily again, hence my absense since returning from Iraq last time, (was busy riding and spending faimly time, lol) I also moved up from an 06 1200 custom to my 2011 limited, (lookup my67pnycar and it has my old sig pic) it was like going from a pinto to a mercedes. Power felt the same to me, it handles the twisties great and its fast enough for me, the radio rocks, smooth as butter, EATS the miles, comfortable, nimble and is my retirement present (got it early, lol) Like others have said, road king and up is ALL the same frame with different plastics put on it. RG fairing mounts to the frame (dont turn with the handlebars) E fairing mounts to the forks (turns with bars). I will get off my soap box now, just my .02, oh yeah, ITS GREAT TO BE BACK POSTING AGAIN, LMAO.... Stay safe everyone, sorry I highjacked your thread man.

Road King: mag wheels, hard saddlebags
Road King Classic: wire (spoke) wheels, leather saddlebags

They are 2 Road Glides:
Road Glide Custom: Designed like the Street Glide: seat worthless for two up riding, tail lights, worthless windshield, shorter harsh riding rear shocks, no headphone jack for intercom or CB
Road Glide Ultra: Designed like the Ultra Classic, no rear speakers or headphone jack hook up for intercom or CB

Street Glide: Sporty Hot Rod looks. but worthless seat for two up riding, worthless windshield, shorter harsh riding rear shocks, no headphone jack for intercom or CB

They are 3 Electra Glides:
Electra Glide Classic: no rear speakers or headphone jack hook up for intercom or CB
Electra Glide Ultra: Old school looks with all the side saddlebag rails and big bumpers on the fenders
Electra Glide Ultra Limited: A few more upgrades than the Ultra but a more modern style without the saddlebag rails and old school paint scheme.

I also wear size 15 boots. I took the heel shifter off. It fits fine now.

My opinion is to test ride all of them first.

I own a Road King. I love it. It's the most versatile of the touring line.

Sorry, I meant to type that I have an Ultra Classic Electra Glide . I had no issues riding several days at a time on my Sporty so I didn't want to get rid of it but my wife wants to ride with me more so she had to twist my arm to get another bike. They are two completely different bikes and I don't consider one better than the other really. Going from the Sporty to the Ultra wasn't as big of a jump as I thought it would be since it is so easy to ride. Good luck with whatever bike you get!

I think TFB pretty much nailed it. One thing, the RGU does have rear speakers, intercom and CB. Head down to your local dealer,I would say they wouldn't mind letting you ride 3 or 4. If they do have a problem with it,go on to next dealer cause the first one isn't worth your time and money.
