Default Muffler - Strange Question

Ok, I know this is weird but here goes.

'10 Ultra V&H Monster Oval mufflers.

Has anyone ever had a problem with the muffler rubber mounts squeaking at idle?

My right one does it, sometime, sounds like a bunch of baby birds chirping! Yes, I have already checked everything. Entire exhaust system is tight and the rubber itself is in normal condition. When it's squeaking, just a little finger pressure anywhere on the muffler stops it. One small shot of any lubricant right where the rubber meets steel takes care of it for about a week then, squeak, squeak......... Drives me friggin nuts!

I was at the Harley shop yesterday and asked one of the service guys about it. Naturally never heard of such a thing. All he could come up with was maybe a little road dirt or brake dust had gotten in there.

Going to take both of them off and clean / inspect everything this week. Just wanted to see if anyone else had ever had the same issue and what did you do about it.

Anyone have a part number for the rubber pieces? I may just replace them for giggles while it's apart...

TIA!

It is quite common. After a year or so I think the rubber hardens.Just give them a squirt of Silicone lub, that should quiet them down.I usually remove mine a couple times a year and clean them up and regrease them.

Yes!

Shot a little... something... don't remember what it was... WD-40 maybe... onto the rubbing bushing where it contacts the brackets on the top of the mufflers to quiet it down. Never has happened again.

Yep...pretty common thing so I don't know why the HD shop was unaware. They get dry & I just rub some petroleum jelly on them & squeak gone...easy fix.

Thanks Guys! I'll take them off and clean. Then I have some industrial silicone grease that is almost everything proof I'll lube them up with.

I used a dab of anti seize last year and they're still quiet.

They also have a tendency of slipping/vibrating out of the mount.
