Default Replace shifter rod?

My friend has a 02 Electra glide and the teeth on the shifter rod that hold on to the shifter link went bad,
The way It looks he has to take apart the whole primary to change this rod. Is this correct? Anyone ever change one of these?

If you are referring to the rear shift arm that is attached to the shift shaft comming out of the tranny then yes.

If it is the front arm,no.

Maybe you'll be intrerested in this? http://betterlever.com

He is local for me so picked one up and it works great! I have heard of some people that had enough space to slide that rear arm off without taking the primary off.

I suspect the next question will be for the best way to get the stripped arm off the shaft without removing the primary. I have never done one so I have no input.

My 2008 ultra came loose and had to be replaced, I got a manual off of thiswebsite and also replaced the worthless compensator while I was at it to takecare of the loud bang at start up. I replaced all gaskets by choice but none ofthem fell apart, but then who wants a leak?

Believe it or not stainless is not a very good idea for any kind fastener. Unless it for corrosion. Stainless is weaker along with oither problems . Take a look at stainless heim joint strengths. You will never use one again.
