I just bought an Electraglide and as I suspected there is a bit of turbulence or buffeting coming up past the gas tank from below the fairing. On the ferry going home I was looking at a road glide and noticed what appeared to be a half moon shaped deflector below the fairing between the forks.
Does this piece of metal/plastic help in reducing or eliminating this upward movement of air.
The part you are talking about sells for about $30.00 at your local Harley dealer. I have it on my electraglide and would say it might help a little but nothing dramatic. About all you can do is use the little deflectors on the lower sides of your fairing and also use lowers. Many riders say the best fix are the fork deflectors but many feel they are ugly. Helmet style could also be a factor. It's all trial and error, good luck.
Put one on mine when I bought it. Just took it off the other day and can't tell any difference.
Im takin mine off, it increased wind noise in my ears, noticed it right off the bat. doesnt mean it wont work for some, just my 8'' sheild is too blame im sure could hardly here my stereo it was so bad! Harleys comin out with fork deflecters that will fit the ultra classic so Ive heard, Theres an aftermarket one thats chrome or can be painted! Dont remember the company youll find it here on the forum im sure.
This is often a simple fix: the Desert Dawgs soft lowers. Slip on over the engine guard bar, so you can take 'em off when you don't want to use them. Cuts a lot of the updrafts! http://www.leadermotorcycle.com/harl...n-rain-guards/ (there's a discount code on the site for $10 right now too)
I had this same problem on my 08 Heritage, and the fork deflectors worked wonders.
Thought I'd try the half moon deflector on my 12 Ultra about a month ago. May have helped just a bit, but still had pretty severe turbulence coming up at me. I could feel it if I stuck my hand out in front of me.
After searching for fork deflectors for an Ultra (with hard lowers), I finally found and ordered a set of chrome deflectors from JES. They did the job, still a little breeze, but none of the serious wind like before. Don't have to worry about my sunglasses bouncing around now! $173 shipped but well worth it!
